Today, Gordon Brown finally visited the Palace and dissolved Parliament, therefore calling the election for Thursday 6th May. Dan Byles, the Conservative candidate for North Warwickshire and Bedworth and teams of volunteers hit the street immediately.
A dozen volunteers descended on Collycroft in Bedworth to leaflet and to canvass local people, including local council candidate Gary Dancer who will be standing in Slough Ward at the local elections, also on 6th May. At the same time, Shadow Minister for Birmingham and neighbouring MP, Andrew Mitchell, joined Dan Byles and County Councillor Peter Fowler on the high Street in Coleshill where they mingled with shoppers and passers by. The atmosphere was exctiting and positive.
Dan said "My team and I have been campaigning locally for over three years on a range of issues, and we are delighted that the General Election is finally upon us.
"The country is crying out for change, and the reaction from local people to us campaigning in Bedworth and Coleshill today was heartwarming. People are fed up with Gordon Brown, and they want a fresh start in Parliament with a new intake of MPs who have the energy and enthusiasm to make the changes the country needs.
"I intend to fight a positive campaign over the coming weeks, and to meet as many local people as possible to put across my message about why I want to represent North Warwickshire & Bedworth. And in just one month's time, local people will have there say on who they would rather see take the country forward, Gordon Brown or David Cameron."
