Dan Meets Thatcher at Fillongley Show

'Dan Meets Thatcher'. It sounds like one of those classic headlines but all wasn't quite what it seemed at the Fillongley Show yesterday. Dan Blyes, MP for North Warwickshire was joined by volunteers and local Councillors to take his place in the stocks to raise money for the Air Ambulance. Visitors to the Show took turns to pelt the new MP and others, including Coleshill Councillor Peter Fowler and Bedworth Councillor Damon Brown, with wet sponges with all proceeds going to the local Air Ambulance charity.

So did the new MP for North Warwickshire meet former Prime Minister Margaret Thatcher at the show? Actually no. Also at the Show was a display of thatching skills and new MP Dan met local craftsmen, including the thatcher demonstrating the skills involved in creating a thatched roof..

Speaking about the Show Dan said,

"The Fillongley Show is a wonderful local institution and it was great to be there in the glorious weather yesterday. The good weather guaranteed a good turrnout and my wife Prash and I really enjoyed seeing the animals in the agricultural classes as well as all of the local craftsmen and equestrian events taking place. I have attended a number of shows over the summer to raise money for the Air Ambulance and have always been really impressed by the effort that goes into organising them as well as the number of people who want to come and talk to me.  II have had the pleasure of meeting Mrs Thatcher in the past and it was a real prvilage to meet the local thatcher here at Fillongley and finds out about the skills involved in this quintissentially English craft.."
