Dan Byles’ Disgust At BNP Gurkha Insult

Former Army Major Dan Byles, Conservative Parliamentary Candidate for North Warwickshire and Bedworth, today joined Joanna Lumley in expressing his disgust over an alleged BNP leaflet entitled ‘The Gurkhas must leave.’

The Sun newspaper this week reported that thousands of copies of the shocking leaflet, which called for an end to what it called ‘…this illegal Gurkha immigration’, had been distributed by a BNP candidate in the forthcoming European elections.

The BNP pledges to ‘seek the removal of all non serving Gurkhas back to Nepal’, and to add insult to injury the leaflet features a photograph of fallen Gurkha hero Cpl Kumar Pun, who was recently killed in action in Afghanistan, with a large cross over his face.

Dan Byles, who served alongside the Gurkhas during his nine year Army career, said: “I was sickened when I read about this disgusting leaflet, which shows the BNP in their true colours.

“The Gurkhas have proved to be brave and loyal soldiers throughout the two hundred years that they have served the Crown. Over forty five thousand Gurkha soldiers have died fighting for Britain.

“I’m proud to have played a small role in the campaign for Gurkha’s rights, and will continue to do so until these brave soldiers have the same rights as any other Commonwealth soldier.

“Anyone who believes that we should now round them up and send them home should be shunned by everyone with an ounce of decency.”
