Conservative County Councillors Propose Lowest Council Tax Rise For Ten Years

Conservative Parliamentary Candidate Dan Byles, the ex-soldier who will stand in North Warwickshire & Bedworth at the forthcoming General Election, this week welcomed an announcement by the Conservative Leader of Warwickshire County Council that will see the lowest Council Tax rise for ten years (2.4%).
Cllr Alan Farnell made the announcement after a three hour budget debate on Tuesday, after stressing the difficult economic climate and the increased but unfunded demands on local councils from the Government.
Despite those challenges, the budget represents a modest increase in spending across the County including extra resources for Highway Maintenance following the terrible weather of the past few months.
Dan Byles especially welcomed an extra £2million in funding for Adult Social Care.
Dan said:
"I want to congratulate the County Council for successfully ensuring a modest rise in spending across the County despite the financial crisis the Government has landed us all in.
"By demonstrating their commitment to spending taxpayers' money more efficiently, they have managed to maintain essential spending at the same time as asking for the lowest Council Tax rise in ten years - that is no mean feat. I am particularly pleased to see significant extra funds for Adult Social Care.
"I know that hard pressed families in North Warwickshire and Bedworth will welcome the County Council's heroic efforts to keep any rise in Council Tax to an absolute minimum. This budget will lead to a rise of only £27.07 per year for band D Households.
"At the end of the day, this is taxpayers' money. The Conservative councillors have clearly shown that, like a Conservative Government will, they respect that fact and will spend it wisely and cautiously."
