Conservatives were out in force on Saturday as volunteers hit the streets in both Nuneaton and Bedworth to campaign against proposals to merge the two towns' fire stations. Shoppers queued to offer their support as over 1000 signed the petition in just a few short hours.

Figures released in August show that the jobless totals for North Warwickshire continue to soar well above the national average, and are the second highest in the entire West Midlands. The year on year increase between July 2008 and July 2009 of people in receipt of Jobseekers Allowance stands at 144% for North Warwickshire.

Dan Byles, former soldier and Conservative Parliamentary candidate for North Warwickshire & Bedworth, this week warned that homes and businesses across Warwickshire could be facing power cuts within years. For the first time since the three-day week of the 1970s, consumers will be told to prepare for blackouts, since the supply of electricity will fail to meet demand at peak times.

The Whitacres & Shustoke Show took place at Blythe Hall, Shustoke, on Saturday 1 August. Local Conservatives, lead by potential MP Dan Byles, spent the day raising money for the Warwickshire & Northamptonshire Air Ambulance by putting local politicians in the stocks and charging visitors to the show to hurl wet sponges at them.

The residents of Witherley Road, Atherstone, could be forgiven for feeling a little confused over the latest turn of events regarding a set of controversial speed bumps. Local people have complained that the speed bumps, the pet project of outgoing Labour County Councillor Richard Grant, do not conform to national safety standards and represent a safety hazard to both cars and pedestrians.

A clear dividing line has emerged between the Conservatives and Labour at the next General Election over issues such as local planning decisions. Labour have regularly come under fire for adopting a ‘Stalinist’, top down approach to planning decisions – often overruling local councils to impose decisions against local wishes.
